You have reached the official website of SiarScéal, organisers of the Festival which bears its name and held every year in March in County Roscommon, Ireland.
SiarScéal is a historical, literary and bilingual festival inspired by the culture and heritage of Roscommon, its rivers and lakes. SiarScéal celebrates the lives and history of the people of Roscommon, both nationally and globally, through the medium of poetry, prose, short stories, music and dance.
SiarScéal is a voluntary collective supported by public subscriptions and funding from various government agencies, arts and literary endowment organisations. The festival and events that we organise are mostly free and open to general public participation with discrimination or favour. Donations that we receive, for any amount however small support this work.
Is féile staire agus liteartha í SiarScéal a fhaigheann inspioráid ó chultúr agus oidhreacht bhaisíní aibhneacha Ros Comáin. Ceiliúradh SiarScéal ar shaol agus ar stair na mhuintir Ros Comáin, go náisiúnta agus go domhanda, trí mheán na filíochta, próis, gearr scéalta, ceol agus damhsa.
Included among the Festival's proceedings is the annual Hanna Greally Literary Competition. Entries are invited for this competition from all over the world. The competition is usually based on a certain theme. Full details, including prizes, guidelines, rules of entry, closing dates, etc. are available here.
In 2012 an anthology, comprising a selection of entries to the Hanna Greally Literary Competition over the previous five years, was published under the title of Roscommon in Reflection. It is available to buy from this website, along with other publications from SiarScéal.
